Welcome to the first unsuccessful Sunday. The stories of the unsuccessful side of Aviation. Today: The Dassault Mercure. The Dassault Mercure was a small-bodied short-range airliner made by French aircraft manufacturer Dassault. It was designed to 'compete' with the Boeing 737 and The Douglas DC-9/10, just shorter range and more efficient. Dassault had found a potential market in Europe for short haul efficient aircraft, big enough to carry a decent amount of passengers but be efficient at the same time. But why not the DC-9, 10 or 737? Well, they were designed for a longer range so it would be mildly un-efficient using them. The way Dassault made a more efficient aircraft was really only one thing which was all in the wings. The wings were designed by computers to have the best climbing and descending rate, allowing it to go higher faster which is key to efficiency in aviation, the reason being is simple, the higher you can go, the faster you can go. News, 28th of May 2018 Search for MH370 to end tomorrow Malaysian Airlines MH370 went missing on March 2014 and has since been considered aviation's greatest mystery, possibly the world's greatest, and searching for the missing 777 will stop on the 29th, tomorrow. North Korea to open airspace to South Korea While it hasn't officially been announced, North Korea has considered, and will likely, allow for South Korean aircraft to fly over NK's capital, Pyongyang. Doing this doesn't seem like a big deal but doing so has been worked out to save up to $14 Billion in fuel a year by having more-direct route to places like Russia, so when this will happen is not yet known but you can expect it to be some time in the near future.
